A personal injury is the suffering of a physical injury or disease, psychological illness or injury, or the result of death to a person. Personal injury can occur in the workplace, on the road, as a result of a faulty good or service, or from abuse suffered elsewhere. In the workplace, working in an atmosphere with asbestos, for example, is a work related disease.
Being compensated for a personal injury can be a timely and costly process. A claims assessor may be required, and legal advice must be sought from a qualified legal professional with an understanding of the area of law and how it operates within the particular jurisdiction relevant to the claim. The majority of personal injury cases are negligence or contributory negligence cases.
With all negligence cases, there is a time limit of three years to claim. After this time period has lapsed, the person who has suffered a personal injury will be unable to put in a claim. Compensation for a personal injury may come from different institutions, as well as individuals and companies.
